JEE Main Exam Cut Off 2025 | Origin Educare

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a gateway to the top-notch engineering colleges in India. Thousands of students appear in JEE Main every year with the hope of achieving good scores to clear JEE Advanced and get admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Top engineering colleges. One of the important measures in this process is JEE Main Cut Off.

JEE Main 2025 Cut Off is the minimum qualifying percentile a candidate needs to achieve to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, it acts as a filter that will determine which candidates will advance to the next stages. At Origin Educare, we help aspirants interpret the data and build personalized preparation strategies to ensure they cross the cut-off threshold confidently.

What is JEE Main Cut Off 2025?

The JEE Main Cut Off is categorized into two types:

  1. Qualifying Cut Off:
    • Published by the National Testing Agency (NTA),
    • The qualifying cut-off is the minimum percentile required to qualify for JEE Advanced.
    • Different for each category (General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD, etc.).

  2. Admission Cut Off:
    • Published by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA),
    • It will depend on the opening and closing rank in counseling.
    • Admission cut off is institute-wise and branch-wise.

While the qualifying cut off allows a candidate to appear for JEE Advanced, the admission cut off determines seat allocation at NIT’s, IIIT’s and GFTI’s.

How is the JEE Main Cut Off Determined?

The NTA calculates the JEE Main cut-off by factoring in several changing variables:

  • Number of candidates appearing for the exam
  • Difficulty level of the paper
  • Total number of seats
  • Reservation norms based on category
  • Overall performance of candidates
  • Historical cut-off trends

By accounting for all of these factors, the JEE Main cut-off would be a balanced and standardized percentile every year.

Factors Influencing JEE Main Cut-Off Every Year

  • Difficulty Level of Paper: The more challenging the exam, the lower the cut-off will be.
  • Number of Candidates: The higher the number of candidates, the higher the competition for the cut-off.
  • Availability of Seats: The fewer the number of seats, the higher the cut-off will be.
  • Performance Trends: If the average performance of all candidates had improved, expect the cut-off to be higher.
  • Reservation Norms: Candidates in the reserved categories will have cut-offs that are relaxed.

Why JEE Main Cut Off Matters

  1. Sets Targets: Knowledge of the cut- off gives candidates a target to node to with realistic goals based on their strengths.
  2. Strategizes Preparation: Analysis of cut-off trends can help candidates replicate their trends whilst preparing for the exams.
  3. Informed Decision Making: Knowing the content of cut-offs helps in making informed decisions especially in the post opportunity counselling process.
  4. Increases Awareness: By knowing their position in the competition, candidates grow in confidence or perhaps are alerted to be cognizant of their area of competition.

Cut Off vs Percentile vs Rank: What's the Difference?

  • Cut Off: Minimum score or percentile someone is able to meet in order to qualify.
  • Percentile: Reflective score calculated, against other candidates.
  • Rank: Their performance relative to others in the whole cohort.
