At Origin Educare is it very clear to us how important coverage and exam analysis are for current candidates and upcoming candidates. In this blog, we cover all of the things to know about IIT JEE Advanced 2025 Paper 2, student responses, expert coverage, subject-wise analysis, syllabus/trend analysis on exam patterns including important topics and what next step awaits!

About the Exam: Quick Recap

  • Exam Conducting Authority: IIT Kanpur
  • Exam Date: May 18th, 2025
  • Paper 2 Timing: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Candidates Appeared: 1,87,223 Candidates
  • Exam Format: Objective-type exam in multiple formats (single correct, integer-type)

First Reactions: What Students Said After the Exam

Immediately after the students exited the exam centre the general feedback was:

  • “Much tougher than Paper 1.”
  • “Physics was very tricky.”
  • “There were no matrix match or paragraph questions this time!”
  • “It was tough to calculate in the integer-type questions!”

Post Paper 1, while the exam felt structured and a reasonable balanced and moderately tough assessment the Paper 2 created intensity and complexity that many did not perceive coming. The search for answers

Paper 2 Overall Difficulty Level: Moderate to Tough

Subject Difficulty Level
Mathematics Moderate
Physics Tough
Chemistry Easy to Moderate

Subject-Wise Analysis

Let’s take a closer look at how each subject did in Paper 2

Physics: The Toughest Section

Physics pushed students in terms of conceptual clarity and operational application. Most students noted that the numericals were tricky and required careful thought. What was prevalent:

  • Heavy emphasis on the Mechanics and Electromagnetic Induction theme
  • Numericals were relatively multi-step
  • Too precise to accept guesswork (what was predominantly integer-type questions)

Student Comment:
“I found the physics paper made me reconsider even after I had solved a question, I barely got through in time.”

Chemistry: Easier but Conceptual

Chemistry was an easier section. Students who worked well in Organic Chemistry found this subject okay.

  • Higher weightage to Organic Chemistry
  • Some Physical Chemistry problems required careful reading
  • Inorganic Chemistry questions terrible little

Expert Tip from Origin Educare:
“Concentrate more on reaction mechanisms and conversions in Organic. They can yield instances of easy marks should the concepts be clear.”

Mathematics: Moderately Challenging

Math was a mixed bag. It didn’t feel impossible, but it wasn’t easy by any means. The questions pushed for clarity and speed.

  • Main topics: Vectors, 3D Geometry, Calculus, Probability
  • Questions mixed concept based thinking with repeated calculations
  • Integer type questions so they needed to be accurate.

Origin Educare Expert Insight:
“Math required smart solving. Students who had completed a variety of practice problems automatically performed better overall.”

Major Pattern Changes & Surprises

One of the biggest surprises in JEE Advanced 2025 Paper 2 was the difference of presentation in respect to typical questions:

  • No Paragraph Based Questions
  • No Matrix Match Questions
  • More Integer-Type Questions

This change surprised many! Integer-type knowledge questions are notoriously difficult as there is no room for rounding or guesswork.

Why this matters:
Integer-type questions require 100% to get correct. A simple error in a calculation can result in a lost mark.

Time Management: The Hidden Challenge

A lot of students conveyed that the number wasn’t particularly high but every question took more time than they anticipated, especially in Physics.

  • Students were unable to finish the paper.
  • They needed to be accurate in their calculations.
  • Prioritizing questions was key to scoring well.

What’s Next for JEE Aspirants?

Now that both papers of JEE Advanced 2025 are complete, what’s next?

Expected Cut-Offs for Paper 2

Given the higher difficulty, and need to deal with the style of questions has made them harder, experts believe the cut-offs will likely be a bit lower this year.

  • Expected Cut-Off Range: 90 – 95 marks (Papers 1 + 2 Combined)
