JEE Main 2025
JEE Main is a Nationwide Computer-Based Engineering Exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is a first step to securing admission in undergraduate courses (B.E/B.Tech/B.Planning/B.Arch) at some of the best engineering colleges, including NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and other institutions/Universities participating by state governments in India.
The exam is generally conducted twice a year, in January and April. Every year, more than 10 lakh students appear for the JEE Main exam, out of which only 2.5 lakh successfully qualify and then appear fo JEE Advance.
The Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) comprises two papers:
- Paper 1: For engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, and as a prerequisite for JEE (Advanced) for IIT admissions.
- Paper-2A & Paper-2B: For B. Arch and B. Planning courses.
JEE Main Exam History
- The IIT-JEE (Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination) was first conducted in 1961. It was an entrance examination in India for admission to various undergraduate programs in engineering and technology at the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other participating institutions.
- In 2002, an additional exam called the AIEEE was introduced for admissions to many institutions of national importance other than the IITs.
- In 2013, the AIEEE was renamed JEE (Main), and IIT-JEE was renamed JEE (Advanced); the JEE (Main) became the screening exam for JEE (Advanced).
What is the NTA?
The JEE Main exam is administered and conducted by the authority known as the National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA is the agency responsible for conducting the JEE Main every year. NTA is also responsible for deciding the eligibility criteria, setting question papers, releasing admit cards, declaring results, and other related activities. For preparation assistance, NTA also releases mock tests and lectures for subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, along with mock test papers for all entrance exams (accessible to those who register for the particular exam).
It has recently introduced changes that address the inclusion of candidates with disabilities. Such changes can also be observed in the JEE Main eligibility criteria 2024 designed by NTA.
