While the National Testing Agency doesn’t release an official chapter-wise weightage list, years of question paper analysis point to a fairly consistent pattern. A large share of JEE Main questions roughly half come from Class 12 topics, which makes this year’s syllabus especially important.

Physics: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism and EMI/AC, and Optics have consistently been among the most heavily tested Class 12 chapters, followed by Modern Physics. These topics reward students who build strong conceptual clarity early, since the questions often combine two or three concepts together.

Chemistry: Class 12 Physical Chemistry chapters like Electrochemistry and Solid State are predictable and scoring, since questions tend to follow familiar patterns like unit cell calculations or numerical-based problems. Organic Chemistry chapters such as Biomolecules and Aldehydes-Ketones are largely NCERT-based and can be high-scoring with focused revision. It’s also worth noting that recent syllabus updates removed a few topics, including Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life, so always test against the current syllabus rather than an older PDF.

Mathematics: Calculus-heavy chapters (Application of Derivatives, Integration, Differential Equations) along with Vectors and 3D Geometry tend to carry significant weight and require the most consistent practice, since Maths generally demands more problem-solving hours per chapter than the other two subjects.

A word of caution: weightage should guide your sequencing, not your selection. Skipping “low-weightage” chapters is a common and costly mistake; question trends shift from year to year, and complete syllabus coverage always outperforms selective preparation in the long run.
